Our History
In the fall and winter of 1927, a diverse group of men and women gathered to explore the idea of building a golf course at Mount Lawley, then on the northern edge of Perth. This meeting unfolded amidst a backdrop of growing economic uncertainty, even as Perth expanded, and sports gained a prominent place in Australian culture. It was time for golf to claim its
rightful spot.
The years 1927 and 1928 witnessed the gradual formation of the Club and the course, with 1928 officially marking the establishment of Mount Lawley Golf Club. Fast forward to 2011, the Club celebrated its journey with the publication “From Humble Beginnings… The Mount Lawley Golf Club.” This history, capturing the spark of an idea in 1927 and transforming into a state-of-the-art facility in the new millennium, was expertly chronicled by the internationally acclaimed author and historian, Richard Bosworth. His narrative provides a captivating global context to Mount Lawley’s story, complemented by vivid photographs showcasing the golf course’s evolution from black and white images of the 1930s and 40s. The book unfolds further, sharing stories of the Club’s events, characters, and achievers, creating a vivid tapestry of the essence of Mount Lawley Golf Club. Finally, the “Rolls of Honour” pay tribute to the office bearers and achievers etched into the Club’s history on its honour boards.
